About our Activities

We offer specialist activities in each of these areas:

Music

For the music sessions students are asked to bring their own instruments (if portable) the school can provide access to pianos and certain other instruments on request. Students will look at various elements of music and work together, combining all instruments and abilities to produce various pieces of music for the final performance

Drama

An excellent way for students to improve their acting skills and grow in confidence. They will look at various elements of acting, including improvisation, mime and role play. They will also study a chosen piece from a well known play to perform at the final performance.

Dance

A course designed for students with a passion for modern dance. Previous experience is not necessary, but a motivated attitude is! Each 3 hour session will begin with a warm up and will include a well-needed break. The first part of the session will involve learning new techniques and steps and putting together routines. The second part of the afternoon will give students time to practise what they have learnt and rehearse any routines that will be included in the final performance. Styles covered range from Street dance, Modern Jazz, Contemporary to West End Musicals.

Our Outdoor Experience activities include:

Aeroball

Aeroball is a unique and fun combination of basketball and trampolining. It combines the basics of trampolining with ball skills such as passing, shooting and blocking. The trampoline is split into four chambers with one student occupying each, they have to work together as a coherent team to score as many goals as possible. Also helps develop tactical thinking and group communications skills.

Archery

With our flexible target ranges we are able to tailor each archery session to the individual group. Our trained instructor will take the pupils through a safety briefing before proceeding to run a session aimed at developing pupils techniques, as well as their control and precision.

Caving

Enjoy the thrills of caving in a completely safe environment. Our man-made system allows pupils to tackle a new experience and build confidence in their own navigation and adaptation skills. Communication is key to this activity, pupils need to work together in order to be successful.

Horse Riding

For an additional cost, at our Howells Centre it is possible for pupils to take part in horse-riding lessons. Pupils love doing something new and exciting and interacting with horses is a great opportunity for them to develop a new skill, forge new relationships and maybe discover talents they didn’t know they had!

Low Ropes Course

Our purpose-built low ropes course is great for all ages as it is just 1 metre off the ground. Pupils must work round the course in small groups to overcome a series of obstacles. A great activity for encouraging communication and co-operation, as well as co-ordination, agility and balance.

Nightline

Nightline is a sensory deprivation exercise in which pupils are blindfolded throughout. They must use their verbal communication skills to navigate their way through a series of obstacles as a group, relying on each other for trust and support to complete the task.
